IUPAC name: Bis(2-ethylhexyl) hydrogen phosphate.
D2EHPA (di(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid) is an organophosphorus extractant that is commonly used in hydrometallurgical processes to extract metals such as copper, nickel, cobalt, and rare earth elements from aqueous solutions.
It is a highly selective extractant that forms complexes with metal ions and transfers them from the aqueous phase to the organic phase. The organic phase containing the metal-D2EHPA complex can then be separated from the aqueous phase, allowing the metal to be extracted and purified.
D2EHPA has several advantages as an extractant, including high selectivity, low toxicity, and the ability to operate at ambient temperature and pressure. However, it can also form stable emulsions with the aqueous phase, which can make separation of the organic and aqueous phases difficult.
