On behalf of Ge Honglin, Party Secretary and President of the Association, Chen Xuesen, Standing Committee Member and Vice President, delivered a keynote speech. He noted that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China’s nonferrous metals industry has seen stable growth, structural optimization, enhanced resource security, and greater green and digital transformation. China’s nickel-cobalt supply capacity continues to improve, with enterprises actively expanding in Indonesia and the DRC under the Belt and Road Initiative, supported by advanced technology and equipment, while recycling initiatives have strengthened the industry foundation.

Cheng Dongquan, General Manager of Jinchuan Group, emphasized that the global nickel-cobalt sector is undergoing profound adjustments. While green transition and new energy applications offer vast opportunities, challenges such as supply chain shifts and resource nationalism require open collaboration.

Ricardo Ferreira, Director of Market Research and Statistics at the International Nickel Study Group, praised the conference as a key platform for industry exchange and expressed commitment to promoting sustainable nickel development.

Dr. Mark Mistry, Director of Public Policy and Sustainability at the International Nickel Association, highlighted nickel’s critical role in the new energy era, noting China accounts for over 60% of global nickel production and use, with Indonesia supplying over 60% of nickel ore. The association supports Chinese producers and their clients in accessing global markets.

Diana McLeod, Director General of the Cobalt Institute, emphasized cobalt’s importance for a cleaner, connected future. She called for higher environmental and social standards, diversified and transparent supply chains, and continued contributions to clean energy and digital transformation.

Sun Zhizhong, Vice General Manager of Jinchuan Group and Chairman of Jinchuan Nickel-Cobalt, presented a report focusing on low-carbon innovation and supply chain resilience. He urged the industry to enhance supply chain autonomy, strengthen self-regulation to avoid cutthroat competition, and align with global carbon neutrality goals. Leading enterprises, he added, should take greater responsibility in guiding sustainable industry growth.

The conference was co-organized by Jinchuan Nickel-Cobalt Co., Ltd., executed by Beijing Antaike Information Co., Ltd., and supported by Tsingshan Holding Group, the International Nickel Study Group, the International Nickel Association, and the Cobalt Institute.
